Why Become a Volunteer...
Today, 1 in 4 French people is a volunteer. This represents more than 12.5 million people who are committed to a cause, according to figures from the latest study conducted by Recherches & Solidarités. These volunteers of all ages are driven by a deep desire to volunteer, without always being able to put it into words.
There are many motivations, sometimes atypical and often touching. Let’s detail a few of them, a little bit…
Feeling Useful...
The feeling of usefulness often prevails in volunteering. Being part of a community also means serving it. Particular causes touch volunteers who want to get involved, with the goal of changing things or improving them.
Many volunteers take advantage of a moment of inactivity to be useful to society: retirement, for example, allows volunteers to devote themselves to volunteering. This is also the case for people who have lost their jobs who, instead of letting themselves get discouraged, use this time to give to others. There are also students who, alongside their studies, think it’s important to put their energy into serving an association.
Great Encounters and Shared Moments..
You’re not going to choose SciGi to get involved by chance:
the cause touches us, the desire to help our particular audience is very present, but it’s also an opportunity to associate with people who share the same values.
In our association, you will certainly find people with whom to share values and common interests.
Because yes, volunteering is also an opportunity to enjoy yourself, to give and to receive as well!
Acquire Skills and Develop Others...
Volunteering is a personal development activity, an extra-professional and extra-curricular activity that allows you to put skills into practice or acquire new ones. The associative environment is generally made for curious and versatile people: you can be called upon to do all kinds of jobs in an association.
This allows students to enhance their knowledge and discover the professional world, to create a network and to face reality.
For professionals, it’s an opportunity to put their skills to use for a cause in a different atmosphere and in a very different way.
Enjoy Yourself...
Like a good workout session or a tub of ice cream in front of a movie with Ryan Gosling, volunteering is an activity to take care of yourself. It’s a moment of pleasure, discoveries, fulfillment, and encounters. Hugo sums up his volunteering experience by telling us: “volunteering is in any case, an enriching and very fun activity to learn about the activities that surround us in everyday life”.
At SciGi, we believe that volunteering is a moment of shared joy, useful to those around us and to those who give their time. If you share this vision, join the community of volunteers and associations!
Serve a Cause...
Volunteers want to serve a cause that is close to their hearts and to work with audiences with whom they have a connection. Each volunteer’s life experience is different and so is the cause that drives them! If the cause of women in Science is the one that speaks to you the most, get involved with us towards better living together, better solidarity, and more attractive science outreach for girls.
And it’s not uncommon for volunteers to be captivated by several causes for which they can provide energy and skills.
