On December 22, 2015, the General Assembly adopted resolution A/RES/70/212 by which it decided to proclaim February 11 of each year as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
The initiative is implemented by UNESCO and UN Women, in collaboration with institutions and civil society partners that aim to promote women and girls.
Gender equality is a global priority for UNESCO, and supporting young girls, their education, and their full ability to make their ideas heard are levers for development and peace.
This year, marking the 10th anniversary of this International Day, UNESCO is organizing a hybrid event titled “Discovering STEM Careers: The Voice of Women in Science” on February 11, 2025.
