My name is Adora Nwodo. I’m 25 years old and I’m a software engineer. I’m also an author, speaker, and content creator in the tech field. In fact, I have a YouTube channel (AdoraHack)<\/u><\/em><\/strong><\/a>, where I publish content focused on software engineering, professional growth, and lifestyle. I also wrote a book titled \u201cCloud Engineering for Beginners\u201d. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

I work at Microsoft in Lagos, Nigeria. I perform various tasks there. The one I’m currently working on involves designing augmented and virtual reality platforms in the cloud. The cloud refers to all the servers accessible via the internet, as well as the software and databases running on those servers. If you’ve ever used Instagram or Snapchat filters, you’ve certainly interacted with augmented reality. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Sometimes I code, and I can also work on maintenance or security issues. I don’t work in a team that creates customer experiences, but rather in a team that creates tools for other developers to create those customer experiences. They encompass product and service quality, as well as the quality of customer relationships. I find my work very interesting and I believe the technologies we develop will improve how we interact and communicate with each other. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Regarding my academic background, I obtained a master’s degree in computer science from the \u201cUniversity of Lagos in Nigeria<\/u><\/a>. It\u201d was a generalist program, so I didn’t specialize in a specific field of computer science. I think the most important things to know in high school to study software engineering at university are the fundamentals of computer science, data structures, and operating systems.<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Today, my greatest achievement is my book. It is aimed at beginners in the tech field or people transitioning from a different tech domain, who are trying to start a new career. It presents cloud concepts, as well as examples of professional careers, and what it takes to build them. My goal in writing this book was to teach cloud to beginners, because I was once a beginner. The cloud is the foundation of all technological innovations today and more than ever, this sector is in high demand. This book will therefore help introduce people to this field and, if they wish, pursue a career in it. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

When I’m not working, I enjoy making music (I’m a DJ), swimming, and discovering new restaurants in my city. Also, I’m a big supporter of SheCodeAfrica<\/u><\/em><\/strong><\/a>, and women in tech in general. I participate in their events, contribute as I can, and when necessary. Moreover, I try as much as possible to separate my personal and professional life. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

If I had to give advice to young girls who want to pursue science, it would be to go for it and not be afraid. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Today, there are many role models to follow. Women in scientific fields are increasingly visible and doing incredible things. Young girls should therefore be reassured and know that there will be people to support and help them grow! <\/span><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
